New Improvements: Typeahead Names for Segments and Campaigns, Website Global Variables, and More

We are all about making your life easier, and these latest updates should do just that. It’s pretty quick to dive into our dashboard to get started with creating segments and various campaigns, but these new updates should make things even easier for you.

If you’ve only got one or two segments it’s pretty easy to stay organized, but the more campaigns and segments you create, it can get harder to keep track of things. We recognized that, and in addition to your valuable feedback, we’ve got some improvements that we think you are really going to love.

Typeahead Improvements

We’ve improved our typeahead functionality for both segments and campaigns. This will make it a lot easier (and quicker) for you to select the correct options as you build your segments. Previously, you had to input a numeric value that matched a segment or campaign ID. Now, you will be able to see a list of segment or campaign names in addition to their ID value.

Segments

As a quick refresher, when you are creating a new segment you can either select new conditions for your segment (such as a subscriber’s location, device type, or a page URL they visit) or you can add a segment condition for subscribers that either exist or do not exist in another segment. It’s a great option for creating powerful segments, but it required that you knew the segment ID for the segment you wished to include.

With our new typeahead update, you can see the segment name as well as the segment ID. This will make it so much easier for you to select the correct segments. You have the choice to either select the segment from a pre-populated list, or you can start typing in a segment name and suggestions will appear that you can click.

If you prefer to search by segment ID, you’ve still got that capability. Segments will now display as their name and their segment ID. We recommend giving precise names to your segments so that you can easily keep track of things and select the right conditions as you build new segments.

Campaigns

We’ve also added the name typeahead capability to campaigns. This also comes in handy when building a new segment, as there is a segment condition ‘Manual Campaign Clicked’ that allows you to target subscribers who have previously clicked on a certain campaign of yours.

Just like segments, you can now select a campaign from a pre-populated list, or begin typing in a campaign name or ID number to find what you are looking for. Again, be sure to give your campaigns accurate names so that you can easily select exactly what you are looking for. No more needing to track down campaign IDs!

Website Global Variables

You’ve now also got the ability to define global site variables! These variables can be used within your web push campaigns and should make things easier for you instead of having to manually type in these values for every campaign.

Once you set up your site variables, they will pass into your campaigns dynamically. You’ll notice that this is similar to other dynamic options you have like adding custom attributes, but in this case, the variable is tied to a website instead of to an individual subscriber.

To set up a new site variable, head to the Websites tab of the dashboard, select the website you wish to set up the variable for, and click the ‘Custom Site Variables’ tab at the top.

Segmentation Warning

Finally, we have also added some validation checks to ensure what you input is correct given the condition you are trying to add to a new segment. This is just one more improvement that helps ensure your segments are created properly so that your campaigns run smoothly and correctly.

If you try to input text when a numerical value is needed, you will receive a warning, allowing you to fix the issue right then and there.

Wrapping Up

As always, these new features are available now, so be sure to look out for them the next time you create a new segment or campaign! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
